Can't recall in certain parts of Destard? Why?

I went to Destard to try my hand at provo'ing drakes and messed it up. Needed to recall out before a few drakes and a drake paragon would kill me, but when I tried, it said, "Thy spell doth not appear to work..." Was I supposed to be aware of this? Why would that happen? I've never encountered this phenomena before. Another inquiry: Why when I die in Destard, I can't go out the exit? It says something like, "Ghosts are not allowed beyond this point." --paraphrasing cuz I can't remember exactly.

If your within a couple screens of the alter you can't recall out just like at all champ alters the one in destard is new so you may not of noticed and as far as the exit not sure. hope this helps
