To have a chance at the higher tier begging rewards (ethy, etc) you have to meet a certain range of conditions. The only thing I know for sure that affects it is drinking from the Brit well regularly. You'll need a lot of time begging and a lot of trial and error to figure out how to get the top rewards, because neither staff nor the people who pull them in regularly are gonna tell you that sort of info.
