Yea I'm gathering this is a touchy subject and it's pretty divided on opinions. I apologize for being short with you earlier was not having a good day so I got frustrated pretty quick.

it's not really a touchy subject. The touchy part is the sensitivity of an overly-pk'd community, that's about it.

The OP's suggestion is spot on, except I would think the chance to stun with a heavy xbow would overpower heavy in group warfare.

If you dropped the stun chance then the rest is actually exactly what is needed for archery.

When you shoot a bolt at someone with a heavy Xbow, it shouldn't matter if the target is wearing armor or not, because it's not going to make any difference. It's like having a tree shot at you.

So I know this was brought up before but I think it should be revisited. Here is my idea to accomplish two things, first bring archery into pvp and second to make xbows more useful/desired.

Recommended changes:

Bows: Currently none, I think if we changes bows it will make it too powerful in PVM.
Xbow: Ignore 25% AR and reduce stam equivalent to a 1h mace
Heavy Xbow: Ignore 40% AR and chance to stun. Speed of shot may have to be adjusted to prevent OP.

I think this will bring pvp to archers other than stealthing around.

All this would do is make all the pvp groups run full archer/mage. Completely unnescesary because archer/mage is already quite good in group PVP to have mixed in with other types of mages, I'm afraid this change would just make it the new meta. Everyone would just do an archery volley on the same target right before the sync dump. Also Archery would be the new Alchemy.

Also even though Archery is a very popular PvM choice (its what I use) I still don't consider it overpowered for PvM. Dexxers kill shit wayyyy quicker than Archers, and Tamers are best for killing high-end mobs.

Bows fire instantly - mages have to cast para which can be nullified by pouches
para breaks on damage, stuns do not

As someone newer to archery, i see both the benefits and drawbacks. It is nearly useless and is definitely sub-par in terms of pvp compared to a dexer or mage. Archers should at least have the ability to drink pots with bows equipped. I think accuracy should be improved as well. Unless an archer is buffed with provo, theyre pretty useless in general pvp unless there are like 3 or 4 of em
