Hang on now, yes this is a legitimate game mechanic allowing you to take his meta and reverting it to an egg, And yes someone once did this to you..But in no way have you done this guy some sort of favor here.
A person once did a douchey thing to you and now you profit from doing the same douchey thing to others. You gotta deal with that yourself (or not). Community support for your victim does not equal atonement for you
