Protection lasts 2minutes (unless u have GM inscription in which case it will last 4min) but it can be annulled by an unknown amount of damange.

I have GM magery and my recall never fizzles at that level. Yet it sometimes gets interrupted and I want to know why. Bear in mind that my macro first casts protection and then recalls, so the protection buff is certainly not expired by the time I recall.

In your case running around is easier as you can heal with bandages while moving whereas I can't. I can't wait for my other character to have alchemy so I can heal and cure myself with pots.
