Using Gems to Tinker Armor

I remember playing on a Shard about 10 years ago which made use of the gems in the game. You could make armor from gems.. ie: ~500 Emerald would let to craft a poison protective piece. The look was like platemail, however it had the same color as the gemstone it was crafted with.

I really think that more items found in the game should be put to use.

Armor dye would be cool, but the slayer properties are already added through glowing runes.
