Tinkering and Carpentry

I'm in the process of making my first crafter and I'm curious as to what these two skills are useful for? Kind of like how black smithing is for weapons and armor. And will these two skills be expensive to macro up?

Both good for new ship upgrades and building new ships via carp. Tink can make shovels/pickaxes/tongs. Carp with 45 music can make exceptional instruments

The great thing about working tinkering up is that you'll never need for lockpicks ever again. Work them up at the same time. You'll be able to sell sets of lockable boxes. Make a bunch at 50 tinker, 70, and at GM. People pay good money for this set even though all they need is a 50 and a GM to get to 95 lockpicking. You're actually pretty lucky to be starting carpentry now that logs don't weigh much.
