Thief / treasure chests temp

Hey all,

Have a question regarding a template

100 str / 50 dex / 75 int

100 hide
100 lock pick
100 remove trap
100 snooping
100 steal
80 stealth
70 mage (for heals, gates, defence etc)
50 spell resist (maybe GM mage instead and drop to 20)

Would this work well as a dungeon treasure chest farmer and also a town or dungeon thief?

Any suggestions or advice welcome

Thanks

IMO a thief would be better off with a template that has more survivability. If you want to dungeon chest crawl and be a thief, I'd make two characters.

I think you need fifty detect hidden for remove trap. I'm going with a similar build atm but it would be better to have two characters

It is possible template (and I heard that you don't need detect here for RT). In fact, I had such template on uoforever, for longest amount of time, tho I gone basic stealther thief+mage/lockpick/oftenchangedskill. It is usable, of course, pretty much basic stealth 4x thief are enough for thievery, if you know what to do. However, and you might run into this too - my trips to dungeons usually ended being loaded with gold, and I didn't wanted to risk it all for some laughable item worth maybe less than what I have on me. Real thief shouldn't have money making skill, and should be focused primarily on his main thing - stealing what you need and getting away alive.

I find magery really unnecessary and a waste for any theif template. there is no theif build that can survive combat in pvp. I found Carrying regs and often losing them was a waste. and therefore focused more on get away stuff, ie gm anatomy with both 80 wrestling and 80 armslore this way not only can i take there damage wep away from them i can stun them giving me time to get away and hide stealthing my sorry ass to nearest entrance to avoid the lame-O tracking issue.

All that being said I agree with other peoples comments that you should really make 2 characters out of this. you cant really be an archeologist and a Criminal at the same time . you can try but you will only end up sucking in both .

Ah alright, my current thief is 100 steal, hide, snoop, healing, anatomy, wrestling , 80 stealth and rest resist, but I found that I was barely using his defense much cuz I was stealing a lot in towns which usually is 100% success or death, so I figured maybe drop the healing etc for chest farming also, but I guess it's better off with 2 charas, thanks

DOH! I find magery really totally necessary for any thief template.. Classic "slippery" thief template - hide stealth snoop steal magery wrestle resist - if you'd use magery for other things than recall and gheal, you'd understand.. Quick invis self in case things go wrong. Wall of stone to break LOS and hide in their face/cover yourself from mobs while looting someone, or block them to their death. Teleport away and hide, stealth away. If you don't use magery, then you'll survive lot less. Magic reflect. Polymorph for hilarious shit. EVs to drop on someone, cornering them to their death. Wis Quases. No, every professional needs these tools.

Exactly very well said. The ability to cast invisibility in immediately still walk a way and then when revealed your timer for regular hide is already reset and then when they cast reveal cast in visibility again and your going to get away

My favourite:

Guy comes to me, usually red. Starts casting explo. I say, Bah, and hide. He quits casting explo, starts casting reveal, I recall. Are they really so stupid to think I'm so stupid that I'm gonna just stand there and let them blow me to pieces?

yeah thats a standard template. and works alot more in theory then practice, I used to run this template but found i was losing as much in regs as i was in gains .. Further more you cant kill people this is very bad , so im confused as to why you are risking a count by casting aggressive spells.

Basically i run with no dependency's for any sort of equipment , or consumables therefore if im defeated i lose nothing .

My template is as follows (Hide - snoop - steal - stealth - wrestle - armslore - anatomy - detect hidden) and some secret sauce in the numbers / additional skills.
I had originally thought magery was important also so my stats for Wrestle, armslore, anatomy and detect were set to 80, leaving me with 80 i had put into magery and it sat there for along time until i discovered i just was not using it .. so i moved it to secret sauce.

How can you recall during criminal count down ... your obviously not a theif .. move along.

Well you only go grey when you're attacked if you're perma grey and second of all in response to the earlier post about about not being able to kill people so why would you cast aggressive spells, you're not allowed to murder people but you are allowed to defend yourself without being kicked from the guild

Haha.. I'm obviously not a thief that knows more about thievery than anyone else. As 5FingerDiscount stated, you can defend yourself, aaaaaand.... Of course you can't recall during grey time. But do you go grey every time you steal something? On GM stealing, I rarely do, if there is just one person on screen. If you didn't knew, number of people in your vicinity effects chance to get spotted while stealing. Ahem, there is also a thief's rule - don't bring more than what you can lose, it's easy to die. So if you brought 50 regs each, what do you expect? Meh, I carry 10 of each on my adventures, sometimes 30, but that's max, and only when I plan to dick around.

If you want to kill people while stealing, go with thug template. It is very refreshing change from stealther work.. You simply come, take what you want, and laugh to your mark's face, and god protect them if they dare to attack you. Steal their heals then maul them to ground. Pop their parapouches and para them, rob them blind for laughs.. or mana dump on them. Simple business, very effective. On the other hand, thugs are same as every other pvper.. you don't have the chance to grab something really good, most of the stuff you get are pvp related things, armors, regs, pots...

Was just responding to your post {Guy comes to me, usually red. Starts casting explo. I say, Bah,.... etc etc....} if you read it again it really does make it seem like you don't know wtf your talking about ...

However this new post you have made has full circle redeemed that and was more of what I would expect from an experienced thief ..

He he, just remember, teleport and wall of stone are two best spells for thief. And of course, recall. Traveling to dungeons without recalls is painful.. and one must check them often! :)
