Struggling with housing...

Hello everyone,

So I've sadly just spent the last 3 hours running everywhere around the world trying to find a housing spot.

No luck whatsever. None. Apart from tiny tiny plots in awful locations.

Now it would seem to me, the only alternative is to either pay an exorbitant price (2m+) for an 18x18, in a likely to be less-than-ideal spot, which isn't really affordable for someone who's only been here for a week anyway.

Tell you what I did find a lot along the way... Countless keeps and castles, with no items whatsoever.
Now I understand people are trying to dominate a housing market, but I can't even see any decent WTS housing posts on the housing section.

Didn't want this to come across as a rant, but I kinda guess it is. This server is highly active, with players from Europe, Americas and Oz. Probably even Asia. And all we have is Felucca. Now, Trammel is not an option, but at least there was enough housing space then.

So yeah... Suggestions anyone? It's really disheartening to spend so many hours literally just running around the world and not even be able to find a 18x13 spot.

Unfortunately this is what comes with such a huge population. Basically you're only options for a big(ger) house is to buy one or place one via an idoc

That brings me to the other problem, they're either outrageously expensive, or are blocked by other houses, or are plain ugly formats :/

Probably didn't even need 18x18, really wanted a 18x13 but everyone seems to do 13x18 (or 12x17) instead... Really dislike N/S houses, much prefer W/E.

I don't see a problem that you can't afford a no blockage 18x18 on grass after a week. Gold here is easy and 2 mil would get you a NICE 18x18.

Karl, I don't want a 18x18. I want a 18x13 which no one is selling. And no space ANYWHERE to put it. I went through every island, every spot on the map. 3 hours.

Also... Only see 2 people selling 18x18 and one of them has a full frontal block.

Ok a max storage no blockage on grass, that's 750-800k. How much do you play and what are your characters like?

I play 5/6 hours a day, and I got a 7x gm provo archer which I use for farming and a 7x gm alchy mage which is my pvp char. Farming isn't too bad, insofar I've spend 400k on eth mounts and 270k on a blessed red spellbook. If I had known housing is this bad I would have saved up for that first.

It's not just for me either, I'm playing with one of my best mates, and he's got a farmer too, so we can make a mil in a couple of days.

The selling section seems outdated tho... Not many houses there. And the ones I see are like 2m :/

It's a lovely server mind, but this housing problem is immense. There are SO many houses that are -completely- empty. And the main problem? No one is even advertising to sell them on the forums. I could show you a screenshow of my UOAM showing every single area in the map that can have houses completely full - It's beyond frustrating.

What upcoming changes? I mean I saw the changes to IDOC being 4-8 hours at random rather than the fix 8 hours... Is something else being changed? Because I mean, that'll help against timer scripts, but it won't be a complete fix.

I'm on a phone so I can't link to the thread, but the staff said that they are putting a plan together to make houses that are empty plots or not being used decay much faster. They also mentioned that house's that the house owner has not logged in for a good while will decay faster and not be able to be refreshed by non-owners once the owner has not been logged in for so many days.

There's a spot for a small tower right next to my tower, which I think is a pretty good location. Hell me and some friends shared a classic 7x7 for a while, then we placed a small tower we shared. I really don't understand the complaint of not being able to have a max storage after a week. Also, as stated... in a few weeks (or less at your rate) you should be able to buy the 18x18 you're asking about. To desire to have open 18x18 or 18x13 or 13x13 plots for brand new players to place in is kind of silly. There's plenty of desolate servers around that offer this, but if you just hold out for a very short time you'll get what you want.

Speaking of sucking, maybe you should try reading the entirety of a post before commenting. Imagine if I mentioned a medium/large space that could fit a 18x13.

I found several (not many) small spots, but I do not want a small spot.

A server with a population of this size will horribly struggle for housing space, which is why when you have Trammel+Felucca it's not that bad. Again, not saying add Trammel, but I'm hoping that the upcoming changes to housing will have a big impact on this problem. Definitely up for seeing a fast decay rate... If people aren't playing (unless they're deployed or at hospital or something) actively they shouldn't be occupying all this space. The amount of 0 item keeps and castles that I saw is utterly obscene.

So with the houses I have that's 920 + 489 giving me 1409 Secure storage. Just because you cant place a large house don't mean you cant place 2 smalls and still have room left to cry about not having more room

You make a good point about housing vs. the amount of players on the server. I hope the changes to unused plots work as intended, because at a certain point, given enough players, there will be no available houses or plots (under the assumption every house owner actually plays). It's inevitable really, but the people just holding real estate, or refreshing an unused house, shouldn't be able to hoard like that, specially when there's someone who could really use it. Selling a plot is one thing, but the amount of unused houses is staggering.

Only time will tell.

Maybe he doesn't want to use both his house plots for one cause. I wouldn't either. That's just ridiculous when there's hundreds of spots taken that aren't being used. I understand his problem.

Not only that, but what happens when both of those smalls are filled (which can happen very quick)? Back to square one. Saying he sucks isn't productive at all, and certainly doesn't help.

Then that's you. That's your play style. Not his. Maybe he plans on staying with UOF for a long time and needs more than 1400 storage. Maybe he dabbles in every possible way to obtain items, and NEEDS the space. Keyword need.

Those holding empty plots don't NEED them, they just want them.

you're mad cause you joined a server that has been up for a year and a half and you couldn't find a large max storage plot after searching for only 3 hours?

there are lots of houses available, also plenty of max storage plots for sale. you don't want an 18x18 then buy it and resize it.

stop crying on the forums cause you were unwilling to put in the work to get a nice house.
