Some questions about slayer deeds + Bows

I am having inconsistent result trying to apply slayer deeds to crafted bows. It seems all my bows are too poor in quality (say, a single crappy ruin bow), or too high in quality (exceptional/vanq). I've tried on a 20 or 30 different crafted bows bought/borrowed/stolen made from a range of wood in a range of qualities...

What's the deal? Whenever I've used deeds on smithed weapons, they always go on.

Is there a particular wood that's best suited for adding slayer deeds? Not trying to get max'd bows (though that would be nice), just some decent midrange ones I won't mind losing at champ spawns and such.

I believe the prerequisite is that the weapon has to have at least 2 magic properties but I am not sure you can apply it to bows.(as far as I know slayer bows can only be crafted via fletching skill)

They can be attached to bows as of a month ago. Need to have 2 magic properties, and exceptional. So an Exceptional Durable Ruin Bow, for example, can have one. An Exceptional Vanq bow cannot.
