Question on Provo Char

Hi everyone,

I was thinking of modifying my provo-mage-archer. The current build is:
95 65 65
Archery
Tactics
Magery
Medit
Music
Provo
Hiding

Now, I just realized that Katanas do 31-90 damage with a swing speed of 58 (the highest in the game). Now, bows do similar damage but with a swing speed of only 20. My thought is that if I switched to Sword I'd have a more damage output. Furthermore it would cost me less in terms of arrows. On top of that, with Sword I'd have a broader choice of slayer weapons.

The problem is that I would not be able to do ranged attacks, and with some mobs you get harmed with their aura (like Ice Feinds). So what if I were to drop Hiding for Healing? That way I could just set up a healing macro and heal myself while fighting close quarters. In case of PK raid, I could still run and heal at the same time and recall as soon as possible. Or maybe I should just keep it?

What do you think?

Thaaanks!

I've tried out both what you have and what you are asking about and as far as my preference goes, I like playing melee with healing better. I like the idea of ranged combat better in pvm but swords and macing are much more productive for me. Also with the aura creatures, or any really you could just use hit and run tactics and heal while running in and out of the fight. That's about how i use my provo macer at any given time and ive only died to pks a couple of times xD. His build is:

Anatomy 100 - For max healing
Healing 100
Macing 100
Music 100
Provo 100 - For now =/ 120 as soon as i get the ps's
Tactics 80
Magery 60 - No fail Recalls, extra/quick heals, etc.
Resist 60 - For a bit of added defense

100/90/35 but ive been meaning to fiddle with that a bit. Maybe 95/80/50

Before I changed my mage bard to his current spec I ran Archery, Tactics, Magery, Music, Provo, Hiding, Stealth.
Fun to play with stealth in the mix.

I use magery heavily for "summon demons" When you are against a lonely mob and you can't use provo, I have the Demon to distract him while I hit it. This is also why I switched to sword (I was archery before) because Katanas swing like mad (58 SS)! At this point, I could maybe drop Tactics for Anat to get damage increase and health increase...

Macing
Tactics
Anatomy
Healing
Music
Provo
Magery 80
Med 40 use peace make 720 skills total

Stats- 100/80/45
Bless/reflect up all the time

Benefit is the Macing damage boost, easily hit for 120+. Can recall and defend well, cure harder hitting poisons than Healing alone. This is an important aspect that a lot of pvm builds disregard when fighting mobs, especially during champs so magery is a must on my builds. Can wear anything but I use leather armor. Swing speed isnt an issue when your knocking high damage compared to using a katana that might hit 90s every third swing. This build can solo paragon dragons, deamons, titans. Champ spawns are fun when mobs just explode from impact.

I use three provo builds that complement each other for example.. mage provo + tamer provo, archer provo + tmaphunter/fisher 115. Macer provo to solo titans and mobs that drop SS when I'm bored lol. Mage provo is useful for all other builds that need res, gating, healing etc, but probably my most favorable character thus far.

Don't you have a lot of problems without hid?

Hiding from? Just need to stop using Hiding as a crutch. When you farm, don't stay long at any given area, with enough Magery and meditation you can recall over and over before anyone has a chance to get a jump on you. Plus, if your farming with slayer weapons, the monsters drop extremely faster than using Archery or Magery.
