Is there anything interesting that drops from these?
I have seemed to amass a good amount of them,
but haven't created a locking character yet.

Platinum coins, gold, treasure map, magic weapons, magic armor, reagents. If you don't feel like making a lockpicker you can put it on the ground and get a monster to walk over it. The monster will destroy the chest and the loot will be on the ground.
