noob question about vendors

For many player vendors, many items don't show a price or a buy option. Some others will show a price, but no buy option.. then some do have a price and buy and I can buy it.

I've tried it with gold in my bag (though I could have sworn I can buy things without gold and it draws from the bank, presumably), tried unhidden, close, etc...

is this bugged or am I doing something really dumb?

For example.. the vendor just below moonglow has health pots for sale (10/500g) They're in a container, and they have a price, but I don't get a buy option. Why not? Been trying to find a decent bow that isn't 10k for days. Most don't have prices though.

Are the bows in a bag with other bows? The vendor might me selling the entire bag and not just individual ones. I ran into an "issue" like that when searching for a good shield. I would find one in a bag I wanted, but would have to buy the whole bag as the bag itself was priced.

You have to buy the bag/container.
You can put items in a container on a vendor and price the container.

Oh and I'm using Sallos.. is that doing something to trip me up?

[EDIT] It was Sallos... I ran it with razor and the buy gump showed up. Is there some kind of setting in sallos for this?

I would try removing what was downloaded via the UOF launcher, going to UO.com and getting the Classic Client from there, running that client so it patches/updates, then running the UOF Launcher to update the few (3?) files they provide and see if that resolves it. This is the route I took and have not had any issues, except alt-tab will my client (I play full screen non-windowed).

*Since it is still early in the day, you might want to wait to see if someone else has any other suggestions. This one takes a little bit before you are back up and running again as the Classic client patching can take a while depending on connection.

I did! Just downloaded the Classic client and was just pondering whether to install it and risk all the work I did setting up macros in sallos and uosteam (and maybe still have the same issues)... or cut my losses and just deal with it.

Ok, well keep us updated. I really think you had gone with the Enhanced Client, which is why the grid was appearing in the packs, and would cause issues with the way your client interacts with the server.

wiped out my uo dir, wiped uoflauncher, downloaded the classic client, ran the launcher and it downloaded 900+mb of UO from somewhere, it installed and I have the same thing.. with sallos the pouches have grids and can't buy from vendors.

I think something is hosed with sallos.

Did you run the UOF launcher after the client did it's update? There are like 3 files you need to get from the UOF launcher. If sallos was on the fritz, there would be a lot more chatter about that.

I just ran uof launcher and it didn't show any updates, I didn't run the client (uo.exe?) Should I do that first then run the launcher again?

I believe it's just the way it is with Sallos, you can use steam/razor to shop and back on Sallos to play. It has some unfinished/unpolished features since it was built purely for PvP ;)

Yes
When you run the UO.exe, does it say patching complete and the button (on UO client) says 'Play'?
If so, close that and open UOF Launcher
Go to the settings button and set the updates to happen automatically
There should be a download, approx 60-90 MBs
When completed you can close the launcher (I would also reboot, just cause)
At this point you should be all up-to-date with the UOF files

I run the game from the short-cut for Razor on my desktop and only load the UOF Launcher 2 times a week, to check for updates.

well, ran uo.exe and it's downloading like 500mb of patches. I haven't done this step before though. Perhaps that's my problem?

hehe, with that bit of info, yes, I think that would be the issue. You are only 590 (ish) mbs away from buying those pots. ;)
