Newbie advancement advice

Hi everyone,

New to UO:Forever but by no means new to UO!

A little history. I played UO from the start right up until EA messed everything up and i ended up playing free shards for the next 10 years! I had a break for a while and have been playing on and off for the past 3-5 years. Love the game and it holds a special place in my gamer heart!

I used to play tamer/mage, bard/fencer, pure crafter, pretty much most of the fun builds. Even dablled in PvP quite a bit on one server (which was really fun)

So to my questions.

  1. I am currently working on my Bard for a bread winner, currently fencer/prov bard however still playing around with the build here. It's just a money making mule anyways! I'm wondering wether to switch to Tamer bard, eventually as i know this would make some serious dough! I don't have as much time to play as i used to, so realisticly how long would it take to GM taming manually? also if i were to SS my way to GM what would the rough cost be? i understand theres variants in price so just a rough idea would be great!
  2. I really enjoy PvP on other servers and love the fact UO:F has stuck with the original weapon class system vanq's etc (these were my favourite times of UO) So i have been looking into builds and fancy making a mage PvP or perhaps a poison/dexxer character. I have seen multiple builds on the forums and am a bit out of touch with this side of things. Can anyone offer their experience and perhaps reasons why they enjoy their build so much? Would really appreciate the insight! As playtime is short i want to maximise my fun element while i can!
Hope to meet you all in game, wether it be through trade, group hunts, champing, you killing me, me killing you it will all be fun!

Thanks!

You could change your bard to a provo archer. Then make a second account create your tamer. If you want to go from 50 taming to GM by scrolls you will have to spend about 8 mil on skill scrolls. They are going for about 160-180k each.

I was considering this once i have the money for arrows! I heard archer bards are great for champ runs here ;)

8 mil! i better get farming lol!

You should save money for about 15-20 taming ss. And get your way from 50 to 80 / 85 in Shame. Thats a good deal. But i think after 82 or something it just gets annoying.

Be sure to have 100 Music 100 Peace before you start training taming. Once you reached 100 you should drop peace and get provo instead.

But you have to use peace to raise taming. Everything else will be insane imho

It will take you a while to get a tamer leveled up. Then it takes a week to bond pets if you don't use pet bonding deeds. Prov tamers can definitely pull in a lot of cash and I'll probably make one at some point but I wouldn't recommend prov/tamer for someone just getting started because it will take way too long. Also, if your intent is to build a breadwinner character and your plan is to buy 8 million gold worth of skill scrolls then your path will be riddled with folley.

I prefer prov/macer as an early start breadwinner for a few reasons
1. Concussion blow on war hammers hits super hard (sometimes over 100 even with a GM crafted hammer).
2. You can GM weapon skills in an evening pretty easily. Quick out of the gate...
3. Harder-hitting weapons punch through higher AR targets better than faster light weapons (eg. fencing)
4. Maces do consdierably more DPS than archery and you shouldn't be face tanking anything so there's limited reasons to be ranged in the first place imo.

I was going to make a prov fencer until I ran the numbers of dmg vs high AR targets that I was planning to farm. Then when I saw how hard concussion blow was hitting the big nasties for I was very happy with my decision.

I'm convinced prov macer is the most powerful prov melee build. Prov tamer is probably the easiest prov build to play. Prov mage is almost as easy but less hands off. There are tradeoffs in everything.

I started on the server just over 20 days ago and I could be about where I am now in 10 days if I had started with my prov macer or a prov mage rather than wasting time on a few other chars.
