I originally played UO back in the early days of the game when I was about 7-8 years old. I recently started playing again and I'm pretty lost. I got my swordsman up to 100 and have a decent adventuring character build but I just want to know what I can do. I know about crafting and stuff, but I dont know where to go (dungeons, quests, pvp, etc). Any advice from you veterans? I loved this game as a kid and I want to enjoy it all over again.

Shame or Despise are usually good places to farm some gold, gear, and or hides (bring scissors). Watch out for PKs and Paragons.
The quests on this server are really only the New Player Dungeon for [young] players, the Meta Talisman, and the Soul Forge.
What does your character template look like?
This is a starter template for a solo swordsman:

str/dex/int
100/80/45 or 100/90/35
Swords - 100
Tactics - 100
Anatomy - 100
Healing - 100
Resist - 100
Hiding - 80+
LumberJacking - 100 (30% bonus damage to monsters with an axe)
- Not using an axe -
Parry - 100

Another one that works is:
str/dex/int
100/80/45 or 100/90/35
Swords - 100
Tactics - 100
Music - 100
Provo - 120
Anatomy - 100
Healing - 100
Resist - 100

a simple template i use on my dexer is
100 str/100dex/25 int
Fencing(in ur case swords) - 100
parry-100
resist - 70
healing - 100
anatomy - 100
tactics - 100
poison - 80
magery - 50

it works for quick farm and is easy to get up (minus poison, that ones tough) but keeps you safe,

i'd go with hexoplex's 2nd build for a slightly slower dungeon crawler that can tackle harder monsters with provoke,

Despise dungeon is probably the easiest to get to since its straight north of brit, follow the path through the mountain, go into the cave. Top lvl is smaller monsters like lizard men and slimes, the downstairs is eetins, air/earth eles and centaurs (centaurs don't auto agro so you can run into them without worry. lvl 3 is titans and heavier stuff where provoke will be extremely handy. *but beware of pks in that area*

an easy place to get some starting gold is farming the eetins /ogres/trolls north of brit near the mountain, if you kill them fast enough you can do 10k gold an hour easy. if you have decent healing ~70 and about the same in parry you can tackle paragons of them 1v1 and be fine, (ogre paragons might be harder with lower parry b/c they lower ur stam so u'll swing slower and it'll just make the fight last forever)

other options, are making a fisher or treasure hunger, fishing takes a while but when you get enough nets and mibs to do a lot at once, you can rake in gold, and same with treasure maps, you'll just need to level up lock picking first to about 70 so you can do lvl 2 maps, since they're still easy and cheap for when you get started.

if you go the tamer route, it'll take longer but in the end you will be running through end game pvm (leveling it is a slow pain though) which you can also do with an archer bard to a lesser but faster degree

If the OP uses this build, you can lower dex to 80 or 90 and put that into Int to take less damage from mindblast. I believe non-fencers go 100/90/35

@Trojandrew - I see you've spent some time back on land... calling it dex now I see.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Ill look into farming at despise and shame. My current build is:

91 str, 56 dex, 70 int
anatomy 79
healing 64
magery 68
meditation 77
resisting spells 50
swords 100
tactics 90

i chose these skills because I read they were good for a standard adventurer. I am also working on trying out a blacksmith and an animal tamer.
any build advice for those?

tamer build would probably be
100str, 25 dex/100 int
Music - 100
Provo/peace-100 (peace till you gm taming and get the pets you need, switch to provo after you gm)
Taming - 100
Vet - 100
Animal Lore - 100
Mage - 100
Meditation -100

blacksmith, just get all trade skills and mage, ( i have another toon for lumberjacking w/ swords since you have to fight snakes, and to get the rest of the trade skills)
my current build I'm working towards is 100str/25 dex/100 int
BS - 100
Mining - 100
Carpentry - 100
TInker - 100
Alch -100
Mage - 100
inscription - 100

these are just basic and lots of guides out there to see how to lvl up quickly

@Hexoplex ya, other than a whirlpool I've been grinding BS all weekend lol

Heres a link to a basic guide to all you need to know. there are a bunch of other taming guides out there as well since there are lots of ways to go about it.

You are not taking the BS,Carp,Tink, Inscript to 120?

if i do, i'll probably be dropping alch and raising the rest to 120 eventually (i should say before i even lvl it up lol), and move alch to a mage or other pvp toon.

right now i finished mining and close to done with bs. haven't had much time to grow since its time for finals, but work and school are about to be out for xmas :D so lots of time there to grow
