Wow. Why do people who don't know insist on answering. They most certainly do not spawn randomly in all dungeons. There is about 4-5 locations they spawn on timers I can show you in game some time if you like.

Hey- so far I am aware of three locations that they spawn on timers. Sadly I am uncertain of each timer, unlike what others have said they seems to follow their own individual times. Location #1 is the fire dungeon cemetary inside of the gates. I have seen them most frequently in this location and are easiest to tame. Pull them outside of room through door, invis, paralyze and tame. Location #2 is in Terethan keep deep in the southeast or southwest by the rope bridge. It is the swamp island looking location. This spot often has mares, which spawn on top of the pillar island. The odds is the knighterrant, matriarch, avenger, etc spawn there. Unless you are a provoker or with a group it gets thick and ridicilous there. Location #3 is in bottle level of Destard where the ancient wrymms spawn. This location isn't so bad spawn wise, but it also has its issues. It is a high traffic recall spot for farming tamers. Multiple are constantly recalling in to kill the ancient/shadow wyrmm. It just means they will just as easily tame the spawn mare out of sheer convenience. Hopefully this information is useful for you and try not to be bothered by the countless trolls that roam these forums.

Also there's one a looooong timer that spawns in the Star Room.

Also the hell-hole known as Hythloth 4. I don't know if it has moved but it used to be at the base of the stairs.

This information is correct, ignore the previous posts. I've heard of the star room having one, but I've never seen it. As Bromista said, if its still there the spawn timer must be really long. Not sure about hyth, havent seen a nightmare there for a very long time.

To recap:
  • Fire Cemetery (your best shot, spawns couple times a day)
  • Teth Keep (southeast corner, usually on the plateau) - I've seen this spawn several times a day
  • Destard level 3, middle ancient wyrm spot (not sure on frequency)

I have also seen a mare in star room, but that is literally once in 6 months. I just always figured it was a released tame lol. Bromista is right though it's not the first time I've heard them spawning in there.

^^This is pretty accurate^^

I have the timer for the fire one, if you want it send me a PM. The keep one is more like a once a day spawn. I tried to time it, but gave up as even when it does spawn its crazy hard to tame. Destard seems to be a crap shoot, seen a few in a day then none for a week. maybe I just had bad timing. I recommend just recalling in every now and then if you want to get one there.

I'm pretty sure Hythloth and Star room are no longer spawning, but I may be wrong about that.
