Magic Unlock spell -- useless?

Every time I've tried to use this in a dungeon, it says my spell won't work with that type of lock. I've tried it on barrels, wooden boxes, chests, etc, and always get the same thing. Should I just forget about the spell? Does it work differently/at all on this server?

It works on level one treasure chests..that's about I know it's useful for.

At GM you can pop level two chests, but yeah, the lockpicking skill is the way to go if you are wanting to do chests.
