IDOC auction

How much gold would be sunk if every IDOC was 'claimed by Lord British' and then auctioned off in a server wide event? Like how you would see on storage wars, put all the chests up for display but you can't see what's inside of them. Let people bid on them and that gold goes into the void.

The IDOC hunters wouldn't be happy but they would at least still get to claim the land as usual.

One of the things that IDOCs do is give a chance for items to be deleted and lower item count. Plus, IDOC hunters are notorious for trashing things they consider junk - which also reduces shard item count. Trust me - people keep A LOT of junk for no apparent reason -- chest full of durable accurate ruin weapons? Check! Several containers of shipwreck items? Check!

Putting all loot from every IDOC would only perpetuate the existence of these items.

Plus IDOC hunters would be extremely pissed off because it really is a fun thing to grab a bunch of loot from a fallen house and see what you go -- its like gambling -- taking that away from UO would be a tragedy that only a non-IDOCer would even consider. Do you fall into that category?

I have done IDOCs. And sure, they are neat. But I actually look for things that would benefit the shard as a whole, and not just a niche group of scavengers. They can still get the stuff, and bid on unopened chests. These items would still end up deleted if they either a) weren't purchased or b) if they are purchased and found to be junk.

Well looking at the big picture -- all groups of players on this shard are Niche groups. That's why UO is great because it allows for the ability to play the game how you want as opposed to what everyone does.

I just think that the benefits from leaving the system alone greatly out weight yet another "gold sink".

I can imagine you think that since you are probably an IDOC scavenger.

But this would be a huge gold sink and I think that would benefit the server more than the desire for free items.

So since you've done IDOCs that makes you an expert? I guess I'm an expert too. Good to know.

The situation is there are people who want free stuff without going through the trouble of getting it for themselves. Especially rares that should decay with the house, imo. But instead of rares disappearing I think they should be up for auction to try and rid the server of the piles of gold people are sitting on.

Actually I do consider myself an expert. Have any questions about the topic you are making a suggestion on?

Why would you want to get into someones bank? I guess taking their home is not enough. some people just feel they should be entitled to everything on someone else account. COMMUNIST!

Can't be bothered reading the thread, but...

Are the IDOCs on UOF still horrible? Or should I just stick to playing PoE?

I can't imagine taking idocs from the game like that that has to be one of the worst suggestions I have herd in a long time. For the people that don't understand idoc's rid the shard of unneeded items IE so we don't have over 1 min save times and it open up housing for new players. As for all idoc players being scavengers I have seen people do a worse things in this game. It is also very small minded of halygon to say every person that idoc's is a scavenger some of the best people I have played this game are hardcore idocers and have given back plenty of items and houses to new players.

They are still scavengers and of course people do worse things in this game. Doesn't mean it should be an accepted practice.

The people bidding on these chests wouldn't know what is in them. It would take a skilled IDOC camper to determine which chests are worth putting a bid on. Then deleting all that gold from the sales. Half of the garbage wouldn't even get bid on and would go away as well.

Locked down items could be split up into random chests by whichever GM decides to run the auction. Make it a live auction like that budcookie guy is doing or something. GMs can get creative here.

Not only does it remove gold from the economy but it will also spread it around as the people buying these items will turn around and sell the stuff for a profit. Rinse and repeat.

I am not sure how you think it would take a skilled idoc camper to bid on a blind chest of items that's like saying its a skill to purchase something from a vendor. It also can't remove gold from the economy and spread it around at the same te smells like socialism to me.

Maybe you should read before you post then.

Player a buys a chest for some amount of money. That amount of money goes bye bye. It's being purchased from an npc. Then player a sells the goods for a profit. Thus, spreading the wealth from the buyer who was probably sitting on a pile of cash.

No skill to buy a chest? Okay, how much do you bid on a chest with 33 items and 400 stones? Or better yet, the IDOC should freeze, and allow players to look thru the house and inspect containers. You only get to see how the area around the container was decorated, and the item count and weight. Take notes then bid when it comes up.
