The original UO ideal had all forms of animals attacking and killing each other, but the game got too big too soon.

I agree for what it's worth.

oh yes... one of these mechanics is on the server however, the demons and evil mages at Hedge Maze fight each other.

As a rat owner myself, you'd be surprised how quickly cats and rats can get along. My cat and rats actually snuggle up and sleep together.

So yes - the mechanics are in the game, awesome!
It just seems awkward for large amounts of animals that normally fight IRL to be chilling calmly in game...
