How do handle buying a house?

I've been saving up to buy a house, but based on what people are saying, there seems to be conflicted opinions on this:

• Some people say I should just buy a plot from someone else. Others say I should not bother as they'll be all overpriced and just do it myself.
• Some people say it is impossible to find a plot, others say there are many free plots. There also seem to be people on IRC trying to sell a location to place a house? (Not sure if I didn't misinterpret this).
• Some people say I shouldn't buy the pre-built houses and just place a plot, others say it is way more expensive to place a plot than to buy a pre-built house.

I know that this is probably a matter of opinion to some, so let me be more specific about my situation:

• I'm mostly concerned with sharing gear among my accounts and my gf.
• I don't want to wait to save up 1-2M to buy the-perfect-house. As far as I understand, I can have one per each account, and the old house can be destroyed to get a new one.

My current balance is something around 50k, hopefully closer to 100k soon. So far I can manage to get around 10-20k per day, maybe a bit more if I get lucky.

TL;DR: What is the best (most efficient) way for a noob with no money like me to buy a house? I'd really like to get something larger than the minimum size, but if that's all I can get, I guess it will be good enough.

You're gonna need at least ~400k to get a good size house, which you would probably need to buy from another player. When people say there are plenty of empty plots, they're talking about tiny ones; 7x7, 8x8, those are everywhere, you just have to walk around and look. Buy a house placement tool from the architect npc, as they are blessed, and keep it on you when you're looking so you can place it when you find one. Don't buy house deeds because they are not blessed, so if you die you'll lose it, and I believe they can also be stolen. Bigger, empty plots may still exist somewhere, but trying to find one would be like winning the lottery. You could also consider buying a pre-built house, not just the plot, but consider this will be more expensive because of the extra time and gold the person who customized it put into it. And it's not of your design, so you may end up changing it later anyway. Also, pre-built houses are just not a popular market so to find anything other that just a plot would be difficult to start off. If you want a house right away, I'd go with the house placement tool option and just find a nice spot for a small stone tower or something, those make fine starter homes, and will give you plenty of space to store some shit until you farm up enough to look into bigger plots.
