Just an idear to avoid ghostscouting;

if ye are dead and warmode is off u cant see any monsters or players, with warmode on u can see both

ghostscouting is still possible with this idear, but other ppl have now the knowledge that someone is camping the spot.

whats ur opinion?

even though ghost scouting has never been against the official rules on UO:F, GM's here have been known to move ghosts from certain locations randomly.

One example is when a group of ghosts were removed from camping the arch deamon recently, even though the arch deamon is broken seemingly beyond repair anyways.. (tamed pets aren't supposed to be able to attack it because it's overpowered, but since they can now tamers have a monopoly on dexer relics which is just backwards)

So it really depends on what staff wants. If they don't want people ghost scouting then put it in the rules, and build a system like the one OP has suggested or one that automatically boots ghosts that are idle for a certain period of time. Then make a mention of what changes are made in the patch notes at least so that everyone is aware of it.

I agree that installing mechanics to thwart ghosting, if it is indeed frowned apon by staff, is probably the best way to go about it, since it would take less staff time. It's a freeshard so the less staff time consumed the better.

The downside of the suggested mechanic here is that it's been known to cause server lag. So if that's the case then a good workaround might be ghost booting if idle in dungeons etc.

Maybe if youre a ghost in certain places for 5 mins you get booted to the dungeon exit. If it was solely based on being idle people would just macro their chars to move every so often.

yeah that's true, i keep forgetting that macroing movement isn't illegal here either.

Maybe they could simply make it so that if you're a ghost for 5 mins you get booted, regardless of movement, to a tile outside of the dungeon, like 50 tiles away from the entrance to help prevent entrance scouting. Alongside preventing ghost scouting, it might help newbs get to the healer incase they get lost.

I was thinking it was more about ghost camping arch and certain high end stuff AFK rather than scouting in general.
Blue scouts have a bit more risk for reward and are easy to spot. Ghost scouts are just a free camera.
