Gains Per Animal

So I was informed that you can get up to .3 points of gain per animal is this true or is it just .1 per animal? Mostly this is a question for both me and the person who mentioned it. Just looking for some clarity.

Thanks for the time and assistance.

True, you wont gain if you succesfully tamed it once but you can get gains by failing taming the animal.

I don't think there is a cap to gains when failing on any one particular animal, I've gained a whole point before.

So if I'm getting my butt kicked by a grizzly for example should I just keep trying till I succeed or is it better to move to an animal I'll have a better chance of succeeding with or are gains on an attempt basis not success?

Often times better to move on. You gain better from success than from failure, although fail gains have their place too and attempting difficult tames will get you good chains of gains sometimes.

Problem with failing on tames is you have no way of knowing how many times a creature has been tamed/released (raising its difficulty to be tamed by 6pts each player that has done so) if they have not been renamed. So you could be failing nonstop on a creature you will never be able to tame and never gain from if it has been released many times and is above your skill level.

Interesting. My skill gains haven't been epic but mostly steady on taming. A lot of it is I get bored and decide to do some hunting lol. When I'm taming I even tame pigs or at least I will until I get the message that was too easy. Sorry for all the Fanitos that are starting to populate areas

Ok so then I have to ask what is the point of the skill offset? Or is it just taming that doesn't really benefit from because of how powerful it is?

I used to keep my skills open and watch my gains as I tamed. if I had a creature I could not seem to tame after lets say 10 attempts, but I gained a .1 I would sit on that animal until I tamed it. I have gained 1.3 doing that in the 90'.s off one animal. If I was taming and didn't get a .1 after lets say 10-12 attempts I would move on to a new animal (70's to low 90's). Once I was high 90's I sat on everything until it was tamed whether I gained a .1 or not.
