Feedback System

So when game mechanic changes are made they are generally prompted by the requests of the forum elites. Everyone knows who they are, the folks who flame, insult, cry etc when things don't go their way and then do the same when anyone who wants to add input, attempts to.

As I see it this shard caters to a certain group of people, always has. However, a silent majority exists that are the lifeblood of the server. Many of these players don't or won't use the boards for anything other than selling and buying items. Once it gets into the mechanic changes, the immaturity of many members makes it impossible for discussion to take place.

My proposal would be, list the mechanics changes on a gump upon logging into UO that briefly describes the change and asks for an opinion of good or bad. Maybe make it where it describes the change and then asks the player to go talk to a poll npc located at every bank to "vote" after they have tested the change.

@Shane @Adam @eppy @Blair Then use the feedback from those polls to determine what stays, goes or gets refined. Obviously the ideas will come from the forum but as far as feedback, it needs to come from the player majority not the 1% on the forums.

Sorry but -1 from me. I think changes should never be made based on what the players say they want, but rather on what will make for the best possible UO experience for all. UOF isn't and shouldn't be a democracy.

I would rather see minimal weight given to the opinion of the player base in any mechanics changes. A discussion is fine, it requires a player to make a convincing argument to a developer in order to (possibly) sway their opinion.

Listening to people cry about changes can be really draining and I think there are plenty of avenues for that already.

I do like the idea of a feedback system in game. However I think the staff would have to approach it as a "nice to know" feature instead of a manual of things for them to address/fix/change.

Players know what they want, but rarely care/know about what's good or right for the community as a whole. Even when the staff makes reasonable changes people will scream and cry.

The point of this post is, there have been many many changes that have been the direct result of a select few very vocal members of this forum. I won't list them but anyone who frequents this forum knows what I am talking about. The in game polling system would not be a say all end all, just simple a way for the silent majority to give the developers feedback on what they like and what they don't like.

To elaborate a bit, it would not be a write in ***** option, just a gump, "How do you feel about xyz change?" A) Love It B) Hate it C) doesn't affect my playstyle D) Good idea but needs work

Generate the numbers and you have quantifiable results of public opinion. For those who think public opinion is not important, any successful business model takes into consideration their customer base, otherwise the model will soon be unsuccessful.

However at the end of the day, it is up to the devs to decide based on what is best for the shard.

What changes are you referring to? Generally speaking there are vocal people on both sides of any change and it's the ones who make the most convincing arguments that prevail.

Personally I have seen some of these people be not only the most vocal but also the most clueless when it comes to economy/mechanics/pvp/what have you.

The devs can be influenced but I have never seen them be directed by the player base.

Please refer to the above exhibits as to why a silent poll may be useful. I'm not bringing issues into this discussion since that is not what the discussion is about.

You're not giving any exhibits you're just saying things get changed due to a vocal minority. How about an example or two?
