Escorts not paying upon reaching destination

I usually escort an npc to a town each time I login to grab my BODS. Twice in a row, the NPC has stiffed me. End up having to lure them out of town and letting them know my displeasure, but it seems that does not pay as well as having them voluntarily giving me gold.

They basically act like we have yet to arrive at their destination and if you ask them destination, they respond with the town you are in. Anyone else notice this?

Number 3 did the same. Last 2 had been picked up in Britain. Tried a different town of origination this time, Moonglow.

Bummer for any newbies who do this for safe and easy start up money.
