This will be fairly straight forward suggestion for the forums. There have been a few threads lately i was reading, reviewing and weighing if i wanted to respond. Many were always heated debates, others spun out of control. All are now deleted, which is sad/frustrating. Not because i wanted to add more fuel to the fire or continue to beat a dead horse, but to understand points from all sides and prevent myself for restarting a thread i didn't know existed (and subsequently deleted)
Two threads today:
(1) 247 Guild thread, heard about, wanted to review, no idea what has happened other than GL gone, guild dissolved
(2) Taming Changes for PVP by Adam/Carl that no longer exists.
So my suggestion - instead of deleting a thread on a subject (and unfortunately subsequent threads where someone doesn't know) move to a specific subforum of contested topics. Lock the threads if necessary (Especially if the sludge is really being thrown) if not locking - when a thread is moved to this sub forum, they're heavily heavily moderated and core conversation ot the original thread only allowed. Posts - before appearing - will be reviewed by moderator for validity of content.
Set a post requirement to even be able to see the forum in order to prevent newer players and members of the forum community seeing something that could be considered detrimental to new players. set it for 25 or 30 posts, etc.
My hope would be that for hot topics can be discussed with out bloodying the waters of UOF.
Pros:
(1) Hot Topics, delicate topics that can lead to unnecessary mudslinging can be addressed
(2) Ability to have heated debates with Shane, Carl, Bryce, Adam a possibility - (Do so at one's risk. )
(3) minimization of repeat threads or a dozen "omg. admins don't want me posting"
Cons:
(1) Claims that admins refuse to approve my post cause my opinion differs
(2) efforts by staff to handle new load of now heavily moderated posts/approvals
(3) Dirty laundry always stinks.
This is not a knock on the staff or the community. I think UOF has been fantastic and the staff is doing some fantastic things for us. I just get personally frustrated when (1) I post into a thread on a hot topic, go back to see if it made a difference only to find nothing and (2) Reading a thread i may want to weigh in on and then not finding it.
