Convince me to play UO:F - 10 Years Gone from UO - Questions

Hello everyone! New forum member, retired UO player...looking to have a few questions answered to see if I can talk myself into enjoying some good classic UO again. I spent Years playing UO - 98-04 on Pacific and Siege. I quit when everything got too...well...basically kinda lame. The introduction of the 3D client...to all of the blues having an entire realm to walk around being untouched and turning the epic PVP and programming of this game engine into what became a completely un-enjoyable game. With all of that said, I don't much wish to get into my UO past as far as how I played, who I was, former guilds, etc. Instead... i'm just looking to play UO again. build 7x pk's and crafts characters, etc.

I have a few questions...some I've answered on my own, others have been hard to find answers for.

The legitimacy of this server seems great, just want to say that first.

Is the server completely enjoyable whether a crafter, pk, pvp, dungeon hunter, etc?

Are their classic skill and stat caps so that tings aren't ridiculous when it comes to PVP other than being a better experienced player? the PVP/PK action on the server, per the videos I watched in the Video thread, seem like classic fun UO.

Are any assist programs allowed? As in UOAssist type programs? Or strictly forced to as many macro's you can key up based on all the existing built-in options?

Are Tank Mages still pretty awesome? Or Healer Mages? I was a pure PVP player....though I'm aware if will take me a while to build a character capable of keeping up with most of you.

Starting out....coming back to UO...any newbie benefits to help build a character and afford basic reagents, bandages, etc. for skill building? I'm aware of the rules against pure macroing - I'm perfectly okay with that.

I hope no one see's me as being a dick based on my post title and content...I would love to come back and play UO again...it has been at least 10 years since I have played.... Please... just give me a little more info, tell me this server is a blast to play and a true reminder of the original UO game and game-play..

Thanks Members and UO:F builders.

Its a lot like pre-trammel UO. Complete sandbox here.
One if the things I noticed very quickly was the rate in which you can build a 7x. So much faster to build here.

Some of these questions are best answered through personal experience. I would say most classes can be enjoyable on this server, pvp seems to resort to group fights a lot, but there are decent pvpers here. I mostly play a thief and love it, but i havent done much pvping myself. With pvm there is plenty to do, especially with the Meta Mages, Dexxers, and Pets running aorund. Uosteam, Sallos, and razor are all used here. You can not afk macro resources or taming. There is no autoloot. There is a big enough player base for you to make friends and enemies also. Thats about all i can think of right now.

I bit of advice I usually give all new players here, find a good guild to join.
There are a lot of them here. But as with all servers, there's good ones and bad ones.

But with all the content and mechanics I find fun with every class of character.
From PvP to crafter's, from thieves to murders, tamers and solo mellee pvm.

Few of the changes that you're probably not familiar with.....
RDAs - Random Dungeon Adventures
Meta Pets - like dragons on steroids
Meta Dexxers - turns your dexxer into the Tazmain Devil in PvM

I have a question for your question. What convinced you to play UO when you first did? That moment when you knew something was good you kept at it. That should be the convincing factor. Try it. Experience it. That's the best way.

Honestly...I first started playing because I was amazed at the game engine. How it handled client-side memory and packet data, how it used server-side packet data, the use of multiple server lines all while maintaining thousands of players online at any given time. I was around for the development of the first two main server engines for hosting your own UO server as well.

But it helped that the game-play design was brilliant in it's original form. Before all the ridiculous changes OSI allowed and selling to EA... I could go on hah.

Being fair though...their are definite changes on this server versus original UO pre-trammy...so your above statement although true in most cases...doesn't necessarily mean I'll love UO:F lol.

I'm just being a tard...like I said, been a long time. From the response I've received from this post in the last 20 minutes alone I see that I need to give UO:F a shot and will be looking to start playing soon...hopefully as soon as this evening here in a few hours.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

Seriously just download the installer and fire it up, come look at west Brit bank and tell me the nostalgia doesn't hit you like a train.

So...just to make sure i'm doing things right to get started....basically download the full game install again and follow its entire installation as standard but then from the UOF launcher to continue updating the client and necessary files to be updated? Thanks again for input everyone.

Oh one more thing... I never got a direct response about skill cap and stat caps here... are skills limited to 100.00 7X and Stats 225?

Thanks guys...time to get rolling...installing things now.

Well I joined this server a lil over a year ago... Basically I was a launch day vet of OSI UO also on Baja, and played until SWG .
When I joined this server I was heavy into RIFT , The servers were down for a 2 day Maintence of some sort.

So me being board out of my mind surfin the net doing face book games and the regular net porn viewing . I wondered what became of good ole UO . And thinking to myself I realized how much I missed a true sand box game. I decided to take a look, Thats when a google search returned UOF , so I decided what the hell got nothing else to do lets see whats going on , fully expecting that once the RIFT servers were back id simply uninstall UO and return to my mundane life of Instanced mmo'ing ...

Well, I enjoyed it so much here , the risk of losing my shit, the people who helped me get started , and just well everything ... I was hooked again and here I stay ,, and it is still not mundane to me yet ! RIFT only took like 3 months to become dull ,, SWTOR about 3 days ,, STO 6 months,, EVE well im still farming EVE but I actually never play that ... RSI taking to f'ing long to get "Off the ground" ... Essentially I think im here for the long haul..

Yes to your question about skill and statcap. Only a handful of skills can get powerscrolls too, crafting and pvm skills. That can raise your skillcap to 720.

The stat cap is 225, Skill caps of 100 for PVP skills. There are 120 power-scrolls for Taming/Lore/Fishing/Blacksmith/Mining/Tinkering/LJ (No damage bonus past gm) Tailoring/Peace/Provo and I believe that's it.

yes but you can go over 700 skill by using powerscrolls for some skills that allow you take those skills as high as 120 without taking away from the 700 point skill cap. So say you have a craftsman that is 7xgm and you use a 105 black smith scroll your skill cap will go to 705 but the extra 5 can only be used in the skill for which the scroll is designated.
