So galleons really serve no benefit at the moment (that I'm aware of) other than looking badass. It looks like the damage needs some work since a large dragon ship could probably take down a galleon.
To combat the currnet lack of interest in galleons it would be great to see colored cannonballs craftable and available on UOF. They could each have a damage modifier as seen below and would only be usable on heavy cannons / galleons.
If colored cannonballs are added...
Iron Cannonball: original damage
Dull Copper Cannonball: original damage + 1
Shadow Iron Cannonball: original damage + 2
Copper Cannonball: original damage + 3
Bronze Cannonball: original damage + 4
Golden Cannonball: original damage + 5
Agapite Cannonball: original damage + 6
Verite Cannonball: original damage + 8
Valorite Canonball: original damage + 10

- Verite and valorite get a small increased bonus due to their cost to produce, so it makes for pretty good risk vs. reward.
- The damage modifiers would be per cannonball (i.e. per shot). The more cannons your ship has, the more damage (obviously).
- This would bring additional value to colored ingots and help draw more interest to galleons.
- Different cannonball types could be loaded onto each side of the ship (port and starboard) for strategic firing. You can load iron onto one side for common use, but have valorite cannonballs loaded on the other side to combat a PK ship or for a quick takedown.
