Bonded beetle got wacked by guard and vanished

I have a bonded beetle that my miner has been using for months. Just now I was mining inside a city. It turned grey all of the sudden and attacked sth (I didn't catch whether it's me or a snake). So I called guard for help and my bonded beetle got wacked and vanished. Only a bag that contains what it was carrying left on the ground. I went to stable and my bonded beetle was not there.

I'm so puzzled. Is it a bug? Has this unfortunate incident ever happened to anyone? Thanks!

How often i need to feed a giant beetle. Is there any indication that a pet is about go wild, so I know I need to feed it? I didn't feed it since it was bonded and it's been for months.

Best bet is to issue a few commands every time you log on character.

A successful command increases loyalty. An unsuccessful one decreases it.

So if after 2-3 your not succeeding then stop and feed your Beetle immediately.

Holy good god feed your beetle every time you log in just to be safe or it may turn on you and eat you alive
