Thanks to lhr for making me finally write this up by posting his idea.
An id orb. This could bea rare drop from champs or a specific mob or gold sink donation sink doesn't really matter (although my preference is rare drop).
It is blessed. It needs to be charged to be used. To charge it you would use id wands. Thus lowering the item count on the server and helping server save times.
The added bonus is we can make id a useful skill (at least as useful as cartography, lp etc...). When charging your orb with gm item id you get a 1 to 1 ratio and with 0 its a 10 to 1 (wand charges to absorbed charge) allowing for item id to become a service skill.
BTW a blessed id item is not op in any way.
