"A piece of an obsidian statue"

Found only a piece of a statue. why wouldnt i find the whole statue? is this part of a larger rarer statue or is it just a little rare in the game?

Yeah you can piece them together to make a whole obsidian statue (will be a random one from a list of possible statues).

it takes 10 pieces to make a statue. just double click the piece and target another piece. do that 9 times and you get a statue with a random name.
