Adding my experience with getting to level 10 mage as this thread is a bit outdated.
The meta mage was the 3rd toon I made and I wish I had started it first as it quickly became my top earner once the Relic was at higher levels.
My template is as follows:
100 Magery
100 Med
100 Eval
100 Resist...
Used to play on GL back from 97-2005 looking for any old school player from back then.
