You can check the hue of a pet with UOSteam by typing -info and clicking on the pet.

If you're using UOSteam, just type -info and click the dragon.

This is already in play on UOF. Green dragons drop green scales, the water dragons/paleodrakes drop blue scales, ethy dragons drop black scales, etc. I do see what you mean though by an actual ethy colored scales or if an ice blue wyrm dropped ice blue scales. That would be pretty neat...
