Try inside the moonglow bank if you are going grey at brit. I have seen other posts saying it has something to do with peacing tamed pets, but I'm not really sure. I gm'd peacing at moonglow bank (from inside) yesterday.

You just click on the map, select dig up and click on the spot to dig, i keep forgetting and trying to use shovel too but it works if you use the map. You still need a shovel in your pack too.

I just came back from a long break too and all of my characters are naked too. Some of them had weapons, others did not.

Just to add to what the others have said here, 70 cartography can decode level 6 maps, so you don't need to go any higher. Sometimes it takes 10 tries, but it dies work. So thats 30 points you can put into something else. Also, at 95 lockpicking I seem to be able to open level 6 chests from...
