One of the reasons why I love UO is because the risk vs reward sensation that it gives you. Each time you die, you think to yourself, what could I have done different to maybe survive? And you learn from your mistakes. This mechanic is also an indirect way to make the player explore the world...
I don't see a problem with explo pots. It's a fun mechanic, and they help end the forever running / chasing people around. A lot of people don't want to be bothered for using them, just learn and adapt pot throwing into your play style.

Every time I send a moongate and a world save comes on, the moongate timer still runs throughout the world save.
