Well the good news is, it sounds as though you are good on your own without the young status -- which is not something that can be said about most new players.
Young status can also be taken away by staff if the young in question is doing something a young shouldn't be doing -- such as afk resource gathering, or IDOCing, etc

Don't worry too much about cash as you will be able to build your horde over time - much of the fun of UO is learning the ropes through exploration and building your characters. Don't try to rush to the end and enjoy the ride.

Another unanswered question here is if you are in a place where your vendor disappeared (because you failed to follow @Akillah 's steps from 2015) the contents go to your bank (the bank of the character who was/is on the vendor contract).
